Transport Planner / Depot Manager (North)

THE ROLE

We are looking to recruit an experienced Powered Access Depot Manager / Transport Planner to manage all areas and aspects of a busy Powered Access depot based in Manchester.

Reporting to the Transport & Operations Manager, you will proactively manage a team of drivers, drive operational performance, and work closely with our Head Office team in Manchester and our Field Sales team. You will ensure all delivery and collection routes are efficiently planned so that customers receive their machines on time and to the highest standard.

Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

What you will be doing:

  • Planning and coordinating all delivery and collection routes across the North, North West and Midlands
  • Day-to-day management of a team of Class 2 drivers
  • Updating driver job tablets with accurate routes on a daily basis (paperless operation)
  • Ensuring all work and processes are carried out in line with Health & Safety requirements
  • Working closely with the London Depot Manager and the Nationwide Engineering Team
  • Reporting into the Transport & Logistics Manager, based in London
  • Managing the efficient use of transport and depot resources with a commercial mindset
  • Coaching, developing and providing regular feedback to depot employees
  • Identifying and supporting training and development needs
  • Ensuring effective communication across depot staff, including monthly one-to-one meetings
  • Maintaining high standards of customer service and operational excellence
  • Liaising with the Sales team and supporting the management of customer accounts
  • Ensuring the depot is consistently presented to a high professional standard
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of equipment and demonstrating safe use of machinery

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong knowledge of route planning within the North West
  • Computer literate, with experience using Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn internal hire systems
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Proven experience managing Health & Safety practices
  • Strong understanding of P&L accounts and budgets
  • Demonstrable commercial awareness
  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Clear understanding of logistics, operations, and sales
  • High level of integrity
  • Proven ability to motivate and manage a large team
